How willing are Churches to let you research their records? Are they oblliged? I'm planning another trip to Ireland, but seem to remember that last time I spoke to them on the phone they weren't very helpful. I just wanted to find out before I call them this time. Also, the Priest died almost a year...

Re: Criminal records

Thank you both.

Grangers14 is correct. Oops, I'm afraid I made a typing error, a very dangerous mistake when researching. :)
William lived in Worcestershire.

Thank you for the link. I can't believe I didn't think to check the newspapers. Doh!

Re: Which site to subscribe to

I would go with Ancestry. I have a monthly subscription. It has loads of records and easy to use. :)

I've never used The Genealogist but I might try it out now.

Re: Archimedes John Harriss

Thanks for all your help.

It seems to be a bit of a Mystery.

The family want to get the death certificate to see why he died, but can't find an index.

They are sure of the death date from a family bible, and other internet searches.

I think this one is a lost cause!

Re: Suggestion

I do see what you mean and technically you are right, but (l o l) before 1922 when most of our reaserch takes place, Ireland was as one and huge amounts of English family history researchers have 'Irish' ancestors, which at the time would have been one Country. Hello,

In the County sections you have Northern Ireland, but what about a section for the Republic of Ireland?
