I think he is the son of Benjamin Shakespeare & Ann Geary - he seems to have been a bit of a naughty boy!

DT - am curious how he connects to you.
His brother John was also sent to Australia for the same crime.

Ive just been going through this...
Ive found the one who was sent to Australia for 20 years, his parents Benjamin and Anne Geary...

:?
Albert Henry states his father was Benjamin, he was born Jan-Mar quarter, birth cert shows Feb is it, 1862. I cant read it well. And I cant see a father named? And Mary says she is widowed in 1861? Benjamin in prison 1861 also says unmarried. Could another Benjamin be father may be died?

That is definitely his family Jo (the one transported to Australia).
I am suspicious now about the one married to Mary Ann Humphries - what details do you have about his father?

All the things about Benjamin who went to Australia point to him being single! Is there any mention in newspapers of a wife or family? Would they not put his wife down on the death cert. I don't know what goes on them and I cant read it clearly...Something doesn't feel right :? Ive been doing this all day

Im looking at the image of the marriage.
It says,
25th December 1850. All saints Hockley, Birmingham
Benjamin Shakespeare, full age, B, Miner, No 5 Attwood Place, Great King Street, Joseph Shakespeare, Miner
Mary Humphreys, Minor, S, No 5 Attwood Place, Great King Street, John Humphreys, Stone Mason
Banns
Both Signed.
Witnesses John Humphreys, X of Ann Lloyd

It matches that Ann.
Doesn't add up.
Jo :)

Deaths......

Benjamin Shakespear Jul-Aug-Sep 1853 West Bromwich Staffordshire

Benjamin Shakespeare Apr-May-Jun 1857 Stourbridge Worcestershire

Benjamin Shakespeare Jul-Aug-Sep 1861 Stourbridge Worcestershire

Benjamin Shakespeare Jan-Feb-Mar 1864 Stourbridge Worcestershire

I cant see a fathers name on Alberts birth cert, can you? May be Benjamin had died and had a child out of wed lock, but called him still the same surname as she was Shakespeare by then? Do you know of any of the other birth certificates?

What about this one:
Bapt 4 Nov 1827, St Thomas, Dudley, Benjamin s of Joseph & Mary Shakespeare - but isn't he the one who married Colebison/ Jukes (widow)??

Now I'm confused!

Yes it does but by 1861 Mary shows as widow? Albert being born after? It doesn't add up to me.
All things for Benjamin show he is single...
To me it points to that other Benjamin...Or another one!
May be them death records may be the only way...
