1911 Derry (Kilcullen, Cork)

Lyons Alice 42 Female Head of Family Roman Catholic born in 1869 if this age is correct

There are some parish registers online, but I don't know if they are Catholic or not, you'd have to check.

She says she is a Labourers Wife but is a widow and has been married 24 years had 8 children and 4 of them are still alive

If she has been married for 24 years then she would have got married in 1887.

So you need to look for a marriage approx 1886 / 1887 /1888, but bear in mind that this could just be an approximate time scale.

Of she could have listed how many years she had been married before Thomas died, so then you would need to find his death and work from that.

Is she really a widow at this stage? where are the rest of the family? 4 children still alive so where are they?

Lots of questions, unfortunately no answers......

Cid there were no Catholic Parish Registers before 1837, any Marriages were in a C of E Church.

Hi Linell,

I can only find that one marriage of a Thomas Lyons and Ellen Burke in Galway in 1884 (IGI)

It is submitted, so could be that the Ellen should be Alice??????

I know how tricky Ireland is, I've lost the plot trying to find my lot................

Well to answer your last question....her daughter Mary was a servant a few houses away, her daughter Julia was abroad at the time, her daughter Annie was in a convent where she would later die at the age of 19 and I don't know how the rest of them died because only Julia and Mary survived into adulthood I'm afraid  Now as for her marriage, there is one church that I haven't looked in so I'am going to look in their church records because it was Thomas' local church so hopefully something will turn up there.

Unfortunately, I found nothing in any of the churches in the area where they lived. It seems as if Alice just appeared out of nowhere. :(
