ARC tbc - Missing Great Great Grandmother

Post by rootsfinder »

Hi all, trying to find information on my great-great grandmother, Alice Lyons neé Burk who was born in London around 1863. She married an Irishman called Thomas Lyons in 1879. Tried looking everywhere for information but because I don't know either of their father's names I have come to a dead end. Any suggestions? :?:

Do you have the Marriage Certificate? If not that would give you their father's names. The only Alice Lyons of about the right age I could find in London in 1891 is this one, she is a Widow:-

I don't actually know where they got married. All I know is that she was from Tottenham Court Road and that she left London with Thomas Lyons when she was 16 years old. Thats all the information that I have. :(

Where did they go to? and what information do you have on their children?
The best starting point would be to find them in the census, have you done that?

They had 2 children both of whom were born in Ireland (2 daughters, Julia and Mary-my great grandmother). They settled in Derry, Donoughmore, County Cork. I found Alice in the 1911 census, at which stage she was a widow.

Oh dear! Ireland is so tricky due to missing censuses.

The 1871 for England has an Alice Bucks (corrected by someone to Burks) born 1863 - perhaps someone could look that up as a possibility?

have you ruled out the possibility of them marrying in Ireland?

It says on her daughter's birth certificate that her maiden name was Burk.
