Hi yes Florence is the one.
I found it by scrolling through the BMD indexes when I had full membership on Ancest*y but its not on the Free BMD but it was chorlton and she was Gladys and mother was HENFREY. Unfortuntely I didnt put the volume number etc but I was new at this and didnt realise it was improtant but now I have moved PCs and dont have it. Sorry but thanks for looking
Thanks

think were going to have to wait and see what that birth cert you sent for for clarence 1912 says also could do with getting a copy of the wedding cert 1937 to verify was you think that was on it pete

Found the Cert  :Clarence H Stephens aged 25 on Marr Cert to Florence Beckett 10/4/1937 St Thomas Ardwick (Manchester) Bachelor paper maker
address 78 Higher Ardwick.
Witnesses HAROLD JONES & GLADYS STEPHENS Clarence H placed father as deceased with same name theatrical agent. This is as far as I got. I found CH Stephens marr A Dillworth in Derby and think I found them later still in Derby and a death in the same area but as he had Gladys 1916 didnt think it was this man (unless there was another and she kept names etc for appearences) as he marr Alice in 1915.
There seems to be lots of Clarence Stephens but I can only find 1 with Henry. My mother said her father never talked about his parents and so there is nothing to go on. She did say thought that Ardwick was where many actors and theatres and "lodgers" stayed at the time so perhaps we will never know.

Hi this is the non starter on Gladys also - My mum knows nothing of her and (my grandad has died to ask) but she only remembers her fatehr being upset about it and that this man had not been who he seemed I think he as quite ashamed and didnt speak anything more of it so I am at a loss there. Also Gladys is like a scarlet pimpernell no record of birth, death marriage. My mum never mentioned an accent or reason to believe she was from anywhere else...Just complete mystery.

8c 117 is only showing wigan and warrington entries so there must be chorlton entries missing of fbmd

I have looked on the complete indexes from 1909-1913 and cannot see a marriage between that couple
stephens and henfrey

could do with someone with ancestry just double checking .....
