Hi , I am looking for information on William LORD b:1802 in Spotland ,Lancashire

In 1861 he was a fulling miller and 1851 was a fulling miller in Wuerdle and wardle with 12 acres employing 15 men and 2 boys.

He was married to Sarah b:1802 in Rochdale, Lancashire and had 7 children....
William b:1842,
Richard b:1833,
Mary Ann b:1835,
Martha b:1836,
Sarah b:1840,
Thomas b: 1844,
Lawrence b: 1850.

I can't seem to go any further back in both cases and am stuck?
Thank You

Hmm...

1841
William Lord 35 farmer and fuller y
Mary ditto 35 y
Ann ditto 15 y
Samuel ditto 13 y
Richard ditto 8 y
Mary ditto 6 y
Martha ditto 4 y
Sarah ditto 1 y

1851
William Lord widr 49 fuller and farmer Lancaster, Spotland
Richard ditto son 18
Mary Ann ditto dau 16
Martha ditto dau 15
Sarah ditto dau 11
William ditto son 9
Thomas ditto son 7
Lawrence ditto son 1
all born Wardle apart from William snr.

1861
William Lord m 59 fulling miller Lancashire, rochdale
Sarah ditto wife m 59 ditto
William ditto son 19 ditto
Thomas ditto son 17 ditto
Lawrence ditto son 11 ditto

So I would say that Sarah was the 2nd wife and not the mother of the children.

Given how common the name Lord is in that area I would get the birth cert for Lawrence Lord and that should give his mother's maiden name. then you can look for the first marriage.

There is this will at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/docu ... nu_search5
Abstract of Administration of Edmund Lord, Fuller of Spotland Mill Rochdale, Lancashire. Proved in the Court of Chester. feb 3rd 1796

If you get further back he may be related (or not :-) )
