I cannot see him in 1920 census but death cert says single so he may not have remarried.

Thanks for the link, the box showing him as single does have the option of divorced which, as it wasn't chosen, suggests he had left all behind. At least whoever passed on the info to the coroner chose not to reveal much,especially as there's no occupation being shown.

Thanks, it pretty much confirms what we already knew. I wonder if he got into trouble with the law, that might explain his disappearance, or he might have simply become homeless and too ashamed to admit it to those back home. It's all supposition though.
