ARC TBC Frank Valentine Hillman
I have a Frank Valentine Hillman birth registered 2nd quarter 1878 parents James & Pleasant
baptised 9th June 1878 St Andrew Nuthurst Sussex
I have Census records for 1881, 1891, 1901 & 1911
He married Fanny Trusler in 1901
and after that not much.
There is a family tree that has him dying in 1940 in St Michael's Hospital, York, Toronto, Canada but I can't find any other evidence of him being in Canada nor can I find him in England.
Please can anyone search him out?

Re: Frank Valentine Hillman
Thanks Jimmy, I've got Eunice's death in 1969 as well.
Daughter, Gladys Minnie b 1903 may have travelled to Port Said in 1922 as a maid to the Richmond family. After that she may have married a William Smith in 1941 but that might be a different Gladys M Hillman (d of Eric & Rose)
Daughter Olive Marjorie may show on the 1939 Register as a cook in Lewisham.
Son Cyril R may show in the 1939 Register in Feltham, Middlesex with wife & children.
Family sources on the internet suggest Frank V went to Canada and vanished and that he re-appeared as Francis (see my other post) but others suggest Francis was a different person.

Re: Frank Valentine Hillman
It seems that Frank is still elusive, so can anyone work out what might have happened to his wife:
Births Sep 1884 (>99%)
Trusler Fanny Steyning 2b 297
1891 Census has her with her parents in Woodmancote and 1911 Census has her with Frank in Ditchling after that I've lost her.

Sorted Fanny, she married Ernest Edward Bish.
Can anyone find Frank/Francis travelling to Canada in 1911?

Re: Frank Valentine Hillman
Thanks for looking, 'family sources' suggest that he left with the idea that he would call for the family to join him later, which suggests that he didn't sneak away which mitigates against an assumed name, but, if Francis is Frank, he changed his name soon after arriving. Frank shows on the UK census for 1911 and Francis in the Canadian census some three months later and the evidence of that Canadian Census - immigrated 1911, no occupation - suggests that he'd only recently arrived.
What I don't know is whether Fanny's marriage to Bish was bigamous, whether she got a divorce or had Frank declared dead, he'd only been gone 12 years, would that have been long enough to have him declared dead?
