This one has also been driving me a bit nuts. Thomas Wright married Sarah Holt in 1820 in Kingswinford. They had several children, of course, but in the 1841 census Sarah is with (I say "with" because I cannot find a marriage record for her) a William Smith. She gives her last name as Smith. She and William have 2 children, Edward (age 4) and Joseph (age 1). Also living with them are 2 of Sarah's children by Thomas; Martha (age 15) and Harriett (age 5). So what happened to Thomas? If he dies, it has to be between 1833 (when Harriett was born) and 1834 (when Edward is born). It is possible that Edward could be Thomas' son, but Sarah puts him down as a Smith? I have known of that happening in a census. Is there anyway for someone to look up a death for Thomas Wright in either Kingswinford or Brierly Hill between 1833 and 1840? (Thomas' kids were born in Brierly Hill. In 1841, Sarah is in Kingswinford, or is it all the same thing? Not being in Staffordshire, I have no idea. Sorry!)
Oh, and another quick question, in 1820, would there be witnessess listed on a marriage record?
Thanks for any help!
