ARC TBC.....Benjamin Homer

Post by nessa »

I have a conundrum concerning Benjamin Homer born 1821 Pensnett, parents Sargent Homer and Sarah Hingley. Benjamin died May 1889 he was a blacksmith living at Broad Street Pensnett. In his will he talks about his wife Sarah not Elizabeth but I can not find a marriage to an Sarah, I have requested a marriage lookup for his marriage to Elizabeth in my tree to hopefully confirm his father as Sargent Homer.

I believe Benjamin and Elizabeth have 2 children,
William Henry 1845-1930
Emma/Emily 1847-
Then 1871 census there is a Martha Homer age 5 daughter, she appears nearly 20 years after their last child was born, was she really a granddaughter?

In his will he leaves to Martha his granddaughter Martha wife of Edwin Carless property, he also leaves property to his son William a house and shop that he is living in. As far as I know William does not have a daughter Martha who would be a granddaughter to Benjamin.

As for Emma/Emily I can't find anything after she is 14.

There are no other bequests in his will, I am hoping his wife will be Elizabeth but what about Martha could she be his granddaughter?

Thank you for your reply that is interesting as Benjamin's son William Henry married a Mary Jane Meredith , so Benjamin's first wife died and he re-married a Sarah, Francis Round who was a witness was also an executor on hs will.

On 1881 looks like Martha is now a Martha Round aged 15

added her in as a possible but needs more confirmation
as there seems to be another Emily Homer in Amblecote on 1861 that could be one marrying Joseph round

Thanks for the information, the will isn't too long so I can type it in later I can't scan it in as I am having problems with my printer at the moment. Shall I post it by pm or here ?
