grangers14 wrote:Yes it does but by 1861 Mary shows as widow? Albert being born after? It doesn't add up to me.
All things for Benjamin show he is single...
To me it points to that other Benjamin...Or another one!
May be them death records may be the only way...

I don't think the Benjamin, s of Ann Geary etc(the convict) is the one who married Mary Humphries, but now we have two Benjamin's born about 1827, Dudley area, both with father Joseph, one born Woodside, with father Joseph, a nailer, and one born Netherton, with father Joseph, miner??

Was he a bigamist - something strange here??

Haven't had chance to check, but do we have the Woodside Joseph appearing anywhere as a miner rather than a nailer?
As I still live in the area (a few minutes walk from Woodside) I know, but it may not be apparent to others, that the Shakespeare's in Woodside lived around what was then called High St (NOT High St Dudley, as it sometimes appears in census etc) - its now called Highgate Road. If you walk across the canal you are in Netherton, near the bottom of Blackbrook Road (at the, what you might refer to as the 'back' of Netherton Hill (ie where they buried all the Dudley cholera victims in the 1830's - 1840's, but I digress....)
Benjamin would surely have known he was born in Woodside, wouldn't he?
This is very strange......

Glad to know Im not on my own here!
But yes odd and I don't think Benjamin who went to Australia married. Everything says he wasn't. I can understand if Mary didn't want to put father if he was sent away but for him to include Benjamin as father in his marriage makes you think they spoke about it. Or did he just put down Benjamin because his Mum told him and he wasn't?
I think we need to check them deaths first... its a pickle!
But what ever it isn't right.

Jo, this:
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... are-Family
Is Benjamin Sr - that one didn't die in 1806: that's a mistake! Also a mistake is the Benjamin down as his brother born 1806: that one didn't exist!

No, not born Dudley, born Brierley Hill s of Benjamin Shakespeare & Sarah Baker (that is, the Benjamin who m Ann Geary), but he wasn't born 1806 as on bcc but 1802.
