Re: Hazlewood Query--NL adding
I am wondering about this 2 Jun 1829
Amphilis HAZLEWOOD, Bumblehole,Age 3yearsBurial
I know that James lived at Bumblehole , and as NL mentions two Baptisms , I am wondering if there was two Amphillis after all . I am wondering which one is which . Was it the one christened at St Giles or the one from St Thomas ????
I think I have worked it out.
Amphilis 1) Baptism 13 Aug 1826 St Giles RR - Death 2 June 1829 age 3 Bumble Hole Buried at St Johns Halesowen
Amphilis 2) Baptism 14 Feb 1830 St Thomas Dudley - Death 12 March 1850 Married Surname England

On the 1851 Census Nancy Mills's place of birth was recorded as Langley, which would still fit in with possibility (1).
However, doesn't seems to fit in with possibility (2a) ??? Why would she be Christened in Oldswinford if she was born in Oldbury?
I have not been doing my tree very long , but what i have learnt from being on here , is never say never ,and look at every possibility.
OK, still trying to keep an open mind

I was really listing the possibilities for my own benefit, so that I could figure out what to look at next. Possibility (2a) would appear to be the easiest one to try checking first, as the Parish Records for St Mary's Oldswinford are accessible at Dudley, and there might be some clues in the Parish Records about the parents George and Mary Hazlewood.
Also, in possibility (2c), one of the Unknown surnames might well be directly related to Hannah Hazlewood, but since I don't know Hannah's maiden name this all seems rather difficult to trace.

Thanks NL .and RF , for drawing my attention to the Hazlewood girls . I do wish James and Phoebe had called them by another name , they both had early deaths , quite sad .

Re: Hazlewood Query--NL adding
Have found a death record for a Nancy Mills
Name: Nancy Mills
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1860
Registration District: West Bromwich
Inferred County: Staffordshire
Volume: 6b
Page: 3[79]1
Which seems about right if she was still living in Langley in 1860. She would be age 78.
Hope its the right Nancy Mills. I've been "bumbling around" Nancy Hazlewood/Mills for a few months now. Don't know why I didn't find this before - think I convinced myself that Nancy wasn't her "real" name, and didn't look hard enough. Ggggrrrrrrrrr .... !?*!?*!*?!?*!?

who is Mary Mills????
From what I've found out so far, I think the children of Thomas and Nancy Mills are
Hannah born 31/03/1812
William b c 1817
Phoebe b c 1919 - who then married William Summers
Jonah b c 1823
Betsy (Elizabeth) b late 1833 or early 1834 - who then married William Billington or Billingham ???
At one time I thought there were several more children - particularly given the gaps between Phoebe and Jonah, and between Jonah and Betsy, but I now think they belonged to different Mills families (which confusingly included several Nancy Mills

Hope its the right Nancy Mills ... (snip) ...
Have obtained the Death Certificate for the above with the following information ....
Date of death : 14 April 1860
Place of Death : Langley Green, Oldbury
Name : Nancy Mills
Age : 72
Occupation : Widow of Thomas Mills, Labourer
Cause of death : Senility - Certified
Informant : Mark of Frances Spencer, present at death, Langley Green, Oldbury
Date of registration : 18 April 1860
But still confused:
On the 1841 Census, Nancy Mills is age "50", giving a birth year of about 1791
On the 1851 Census, Nancy Mills is age 68, giving a birth year of 1783
The age given on the Death Certificate would give a birth year of 1788
I know that 1841 "ages" were often very approximate, but there is still a 5 year difference between the other two birth dates. Is this feasible ?
