Yep. Friday and Sunday are super high days when everything is closed (or st least used to be, there has been some slacking recently), and Thursday and Monday are more like normal Sunday closures.
Not sure how it is now but the clubs/bars used to be closed on Good Friday... until midnight when all piled into town to make up for a very quiet day.
Anyhow, Happy Easter Rob!

Yep!
There's no difference thursday, friday, sunday, monday - saturday is just like a normal saturday. The other days are regarded as more "sacred". Same as Christmas, it'll be a long time before shops open on Boxing day here, even though there are now no laws to stop it. It does mean that a chain of small supermarkets are open every day apart from Christmas Day and Boxing Day, but they're the sort of shops that have taken over from corner shops.

Is it still illegal in the UK to sell hot cross buns at other times of the year?

I didn't know it ever had been, they're permanently on sale round here.
Shops, especially food shops, have always opened on Good Friday in my lifetime, I recall, as a child, going off to the local bakers for fresh baked hot cross buns on Good Friday morning and when I worked in the Borough Market we worked on Good Friday; if greengrocers and street markets opened we had to supply them.
The bnurlers have just been, hurling the bins around as usual - no holiday for them, but I note that the bank is closed today.

When I was a kid you could only buy them up to Easter, then they disapeared, and I remember hearing that it was illegal to sell them at other times of the year. Wikipedia says that it was illegal to sell spiced buns at other times other than funerals, Good Friday and Christmas, so that's maybe what I'd heard.

A rabbit goes to the doctor complaining of being really sick after breakfast in the morning.

The doctor asked the rabbit to describe his usual breakfast.

The rabbit said he first has a slice of white toast with marmalade.

He then has a slice of raisin toast with butter on it.

"Aha" said the doctor and handed his diagnosis and prescription to the rabbit.

The rabbit gets home and his wife asks him what is wrong.

"Mixupmytoasties" according to the doctor said the rabbit.

BOOM BOOM! That was a Basil Brush joke from many years ago so blame him...
