Okay - this is what I know of my family. During the nailmakers strike in the 1860s, Walkers of Netherton brought in some workers from Belper and Pentrich in Derbyshire as strike breakers. Contrary to popular opinion, they did not all settle in Derby End or Belper Row, but most were put up in new houses in Griffin Street and Meeting Street in Netherton, hence there are Taylors in quite a few houses there in the 1860s and 1870s.
Henry Richard Taylor was my great great grandfather and we were never sure whether he married Edena Smith or Edna Hollis. after today it looks most likely that it was Edna Hollis (or Hollies( especially as another Hollies sister married one of his brothers.
Thanks for finding the wedding details of John William and Esther Willetts, that really has opened a few memories of conversations in the distant past for my old Mam. John and Esther were married in 1888 and had three children, Maggie , David westley and John William. They all lived in Chapel Street in Netherton and my Grandad often showed me the house when he took me for walks around Netherton in the late 60s. Early 1901 disater struck The family were struck down with Typhoid fever, Maggie died at home on jan 22nd, John died at home on feb 1st and Esther died in the Infectious disease hospital on Feb 10th leaving John (always known as Jack) and David (always known as Wes or Wesley) (note different spelling to his birth certificate which was David Westley) as orphans. You have detailed the census which shows Wes n Jack living with their Aunt and cousins on here earlier.
Wes went to work at Stewarts and Lloyds when he was 16 and worked there until he retired 50 years later. during that time he served as a horse driver in the ASC in WW1, getting shelled in Gallipoli and always carrying the shrapnel imbedded in his leg as a reminder. Wes married Minnie Hill on Sept 20th 1924 at st Andrews Church Netherton and I have their wedding photo too. Wes was living on Long Lane Blackheath at the time. He lived a long life and finally passed away on 21 september 1991 aged 99, I was with him when he died

I never met Minnie, she died the year before I was born on 20 April 1963.
A few coincidences have occured along the way too. I was born in Walker Street Netherton, named after Walkers, the same firm that brought my family to Netherton in the first place. I also lived on Shell Corner for a while in the 90s, a house my grandfather spent time in during the 1920s but didn't realise at the time. I have also just made contact with another Taylor now living in Holland, the grandson of Harry Taylor who was with John William when he died in 1901 and signed the death certificate. A 2nd cousin that my mam never knew she had. My mam is Margaret Taylor, born Feb 10th 1928 and the only child of Wes and Minnie, she was named after poor Maggie who died so young in 1901. I have Maggies bible and will treasure it forever.
