FINDING SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN MURDERED
Hi there
Can you help please? we are doing our family tree and trying to track our jewish roots. My Nans Grandad was Jewish but didnt have a jewish name. His dad was murdered and we think his wife must have remarried to a Bailey so the children then adopted that name. We are hoping to find the fathers name a marriage certificate, we could ask for a birth certificate but we are quite sure he didnt have that birth name, so perhaps when he married it would have had his fathers name on the marriage certificate. His Name is Mark Bailey and his father was murdered.
This is the information I have off my mother - can you advise the best course of action please any help appreciated
Sharon C
Mark(bailey) ? father was murdered (Surname unknown) we know that he was a jeweller
Story as told by Gt. Grand mother .London coach got off at the Station inn Open Gates? and walked home
body found 6/12 month later on . 2 men came up on charges But his name Still a mystery
Open gates played a big part in the Bailey lives
1911 census had Mark ( 1857)? and Jane (1860) living at Old Park,Dawley
Farm/mines
living there with 7 children + 2 g.children have copy of cenus and agree all names

Re: FINDING SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN MURDERED
Hi
How tragic!
There is a family in the 1881 census here http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/ ... census.asp
Mark Bailey 28 born Dawley ironstone miner
Jane ditto wife 23 born Wombridge
Wm Henry Bailey son 1 born Wombridge
Is that them?
If so then this marriage looks likely
March qtr 1878
Mark Bailey and either Jane Cope or Elizabeth Moore Wellington district 6a 1091
(The marriage indexes have two couples on each page, see http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl )
There is a good chance that the marriage certificate would have Mark's father's name on it, though you can never be sure
The step-by-step way to go would be to get the 1901, 1891 and 1881 census. Then if you think you have the right marriage you would need to buy it and see if it has his father's name on it.
Perhaps someone will oblige with the 1901 census? Oh, and the 1911 should say how long Mark and Jane were married.

Re: FINDING SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN MURDERED
Hah! I got lucky
Deaths Mar 1868 (>99%)
Zusman Barnatt 48 Madeley 6a 433
Newpaper report here names him
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=Tl ... ates&hl=en
I saw somewhere else that Oakengates is locally propounced Open Gates
So that is the Jewish jeweller bit, I did not make any head way with his wife or family.

I have read the articles in the Times about 5, no mention of a wife or family.

Re: FINDING SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN MURDERED
Thanks Jimmy
Then i don't see any connection
And those census lists don't show any name change. Very puzzling!

Re: FINDING SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN MURDERED
Does it fit the story otherwise, Jimmy? As in the body found months later.
Surely there weren't two Jewish jeweller's murdered in that part of Shropshire?

Re: FINDING SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN MURDERED
I havn't read it all through but I take it he was murdered on Nov 15. 1867, and the trial started in Jube 1868, so this burial in June 1867 can't be right.
But this one fits,
Deaths Mar 1868.
Zusman Barnatt. 48. Madeley. 6a. 433.

Re: FINDING SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN MURDERED
This is the only Zusman marriage I can see,
Marriages Sep 1869.
LEWICKI Michael London C. 1c 193.
LUBLIUSKI Miriam Cohen London C 1c 193.
Rose Harris London City 1c 193.
Zussman Hannah London City 1c 193.
I have found the other two in 1871, but not Hannah and Michal. Michal on image.
