Mabel Spurway is missing! - COMPLETE Thank you!

Post by Loakesy »

I'm doing some research for a friend and I'm having difficulties locating one particular line.

My friends great grandmother Mabel Spurway was born in 1893 in Barnstable. her marriage certificate (to Authur Reginald Casely Howard in 1915) not only shows her age, but also shows her father as William, a wood turner (deceased). There is a reference in the GRO indices to the correct date of birth.

I cannot find either Mabel or William in the 1901 census. Nor can I locate William any earlier that this, with the limited information I have of him! The only record that keeps cropping up is that of Mable Spurway born 1886 in Barnstable and who's mother was Sarah. I have reason to suspect that she may be a cousin, and there is a separate GRO record in the index for her. I haven't tried the 1911 yet as I don't have access through Ancestry, but any assisyance in locating wither of these tow would be fabulously helpful!

Many thanks

It all seems so obvoius now that I see it!! I don't know how I didn't find him before, what was I thinking!!

Many thanks for the help everyone, I feel confident that the William Spurway and his family from Pilton are all the right person (I believe Pilton and Barnstable are very close by).

The witnesses at the wedding were Arthur Douglas Rogers, Alfred William Folly (orJolly) and Agnes Maud Howard (Arthur Howard's sister).

I'm going to try to find out if my hypothesis is correct that the two Mabels were cousins now!

I still can't find Mabel in 1901, though! :P

By my calculations it would appear that the Mabel born in 1892 is the aunt if the Mabel born in 1886. :o
