I can't see you are missing anything Mally , I can't see Martha being his mother in law unless Charles had been married before.

What's the word that's crossed out and been replaced by mother inlaw. Does it say relative?

I can only see one Martha Tromans in previous census (1881+1871) and she is with husband Thomas (b 1817). She appears to be his second wife as he is with a Rebecca in 1861.

I think it says Relation cid

This Martha Tromans also had a daughter called Mary A.
