"completed" genealogy and insomnia

Post by expat66 »

Am I the only one who does this... or does anyone else out there wake up in the middle of the night then can't get back to sleep 'cos your head is just full of names..trying to work out how so and so is related to who in your family tree...is there a cure?

It's a bit of a bonus for me expat. Never needed a lot of sleep and regularly wake up at about 3.00. The tele and music wakes everyone up, but the computer is really quiet. Get some of my best work done in the early hours. Had a lie in this morning - didn't wake up until 5.00. But yes, I'm sure a lot of people who have been bitten by the "bug" wake up looking for an answer to a mystery.

Your not the only one and there's no cure expat, for me I find answering one question leads to more questions, I could literally spend all day trying to find one person, the live people around me think I'm nuts looking for dead people they hung a cute little skelton above my computer pull the string and it chatters.. that's their way of saying 'it's ok we understand'...

And yes when I should be sleeping I'm sorting thru 'dead people'... it's strangely comforting
I live in my own little world. But it's ok....they know me here!

I have narcolepsy so even a naked super model in my bed wouldn't keep me awake....

But genealogy can be a bit like your favorite computer game.

Just one more turn and I promise I will go to bed!

Or a good book!
Don't usually have any problem falling and staying asleep though. (I heard that yawning and then counting your yawns help - try it, it's amazing how a yawn even a fake one makes you feel sleepy).

It works best I find if I lie on my back, and clear my head of all the clutter, then concentrate on counting the yawns.
Thankfully not a problem for me to fall asleep, unless I'm oncall, then sometimes I'm too wound up to fall asleep straight away

I never have any trouble going to sleep - I go off in about 10 minutes. I only need four or five hours though - so wake up early.

I'm definently an eight hour girl :(
I wish I could cope with less! Luckily I tend to fall asleep quick too (unless I'm on-call)
