*Arc tbc* -Lenny HACKETT born 1854 ( wife of William HEWITT)

Post by expat66 »

Having some trouble working out who William HEWITT's wife (my great great grandmother) was.
Her name changes on every census:

1881 11 Hackett St
William HEWITT (29) is a rivet maker, born Rowley Regis..
wife Selina (24) born Rowley Regis
daughters Harriet(4)
and Hannah(3 months) all born Rowley Regis

1891 43 Hackett St
William HEWITT (40) bolt rivet maker,
wife Lenny(36),
daughters Harriott(13),
Hannah(10),
sons Enoch(8),
John(6),
Solomon(4),
William(1)... all born Rowley Regis

1901 45, Hackett St
William HEWITT(49) rivet bolt maker, worker at home, born Shropshire,
wife Lenna(44),
sons Enoch(18)striker(?) at ironworks,
John(16)screw?...fittings,
Solomon(14)labourer gen.,
Aaron(9),
daughters Lydia(5)
Ruth(3).
.wife and children all born in Blackheath

I found marriage of William HEWITT and Lanah HACKETT in 1875...Dudley, St. Andrew, Dudley Reg. Office 205/006/182

and birth of Lenny HACKETT in 1854 Rowley Regis Sandwell REg Office RR/20/266 ( could this be the same person?)

I am not familiar with the name Selina... is it commonly shortened to other names such as those above?

Are there any other names I should be looking for?

Confused Expat!! :?

Selina was quite a common name at that time, I have three in just one of my families. It was sometimes shorted to Lena and perhaps when the enumerator heard Lenny or Lena, he assumed it was Selina. I have never heard Lenny before, but it does look like you have the right one. I would think that the vicar spelled in wrong on the marriage, or it could have been transcribed wrong, some vicars had dreadful writing.

There is a death recorded for Lena Hewitt, June Qtr 1920 - Dudley District - Aged 65. This isn't shown in the West Midlands BMD records, so it would have been a sub district of Dudley, probably Rowley Regis, these haven't been added yet.

Here is the family in 1911 at 19 Halesowen Street, Blackheath

HEWITT, William Head Married M 61 1850 Frost Stud Maker Gorsty Hill Wor
HEWITT, Jenna Wife Married
36 years F 57 1854 Whiteheath Staff
HEWITT, Aaron Son Single M 19 1892 Screwer Blackheath Staff
HEWITT, Lydia Daughter Single F 16 1895 Screwer Blackheath Staff
HEWITT, Ruth Daughter F 13 1898 Blackheath Staff

This is the first census that was filled in by the househoulder and is signed by William. The original does say Jenna.

Very confusing, but I think the marriage found have found for Lanah and the birth for Lenny are probably the right ones.

Fun - isn't it

I have some new info. on this lady...
Now have the birth certificate for Lenny HACKETT...
born 7 Nov 1854 Gosty Hill, Rowley Regis
mother Maria HACKETT ... name and occupation of father not listed
signed.. the mark of Maria HACKETT, Gosty Hill, Rowley Regis on 15 Nov 1854... John Whitehouse the Registrar

I am wondering if the mother is this Maria HACKETT on BCC

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... ett-Family

There is a Selina amongst the children listed and 'Lenny' or Lanah used the name Selina on one of the censuses I have for her. This Selina was also born before Maria's marriage to Moses ROSE

Also ...from BCC... on the 1841 census the father of Maria Hackett ( Josiah) has a wife Lenney ....so maybe it is the right Maria .. and she names her baby after her mother?

I had not found my Lenny or Lanah on either the 1861 or 1871 census .... maybe she is with Maria and husband Moses ROSE?

Still don't have 'ancestry' access at the moment ( still waiting for new credit card .... we are dealing with aftermath of bad postal strike here and lots of post has gone astray!) so wonder whether you good people could please have a look at the census for me to see if Lenny/Lanah/ Selina is in this household? :P

Many Thanks

Thankyou Grangers & Farside,

I think that Lenny Hackett & Selina Rose are the same person.

I suppose to be really sure we have to see if there is a birth for a Selina or Lenna Rose

What do you think?

Could be 'back to the drawing board' with this one!
