John James from Halesowen
Hi there
I'm new and this is my first post. I'm trying to find where John James was born and who his parents were and wondered if anyone could help me. I know he married a Sarah Green somewhere in the middle of the 1880s. She came from Clent. They had a daughter called Alice, amongst quite a few other children. They all lived in Tipton/Dudley when they first married. That's all I know, I'm afraid.
Thanks.

Hello - and Welcome to the forum
John and Sarah might have married at Christ Church in Coseley in 1893
Have a look at this site : http://www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk
You can search for marriages and it will give you the name of the church were they were married. You can then get a copy of the cert from the register office, or if you have access, from Dudley Archives for about 60p rather than £9.00

Thanks for your replies. Going by the census information I have, John was born about 1827 and Sarah a couple of years afterwards. Are the Dudley archives online then?

The information from Dudley Archives isn't online. The marriages are online, but you would have to visit the archives in coseley, or you can contact them and they will send you a copy of the marriage.
What census information to you have ?

Have you checked this site out?
www.familysearch.org?
You need to be a little careful as some records are submitted by members, and some are extracted (transcribed from the records), but they can help you get a bit further back! Try looking at the links section too!

Re: John James from Halesowen
That's the one that Jimmy found then - so they're more likely to have been married in the 1840's or 1850's than the 1880's.
The marriage Jimmy found at St Thomas in Dudley, is likely to be the one, if they married in the area.

Wow, I can't believe all the help you've given me already and I've only been on here a short while. Thank you so much Antie Em and Jimmy, all of you who've replied. Right, so if I get the Marriage Certificate for John and Sarah, will that give me Johns's parents' names and the place of his birth?

Hello again
The marriage says they're both living in Dudley, this is not neccesarily the truth of where they are living or where they were born. They sometimes said this just so that they could marry at that church.
