I watched it and was so shocked

Disgraceful what a waste of food and declining occupations!
Made me more cross than it did about the chickens, needs sorting!

Hmmm, tricky one this. Not having a telly I didn't see the programme but it is undoubtedly true that wherever fishermen are allowed to fish without careful legislation and oversight it has resulted in stock depletion. It is possible to fish more carefully and sustainably but it is much more expensive, if we were prepared to pay the proper rate for the product such wasteage needn't occur but our demands for cheap food far outweigh any conservation measures required. In those instances where the landing of 'illegal' catches is allowed it has only meant that fishermen go out to deliberately catch such fish, if the only way to preserve the long term future of fish stocks is to penalise the fishermen in this way then so be it.
Currently investigating the Hillmans of Sussex.

If you click the link Peter put you will be able to see what the problems are.

The fact they are throwing a good half of the catch, dead, back in to the sea is such a waste!
