Flooding is bad...flash flooding is frightening....

Post by MarkCDodd »

We have all felt bad for our Queenslanders this week due to the huge floods.

But what happened in Tawoomba yesterday is very scary....

Imagine sitting at home one minute and then being swept away to your death without warning the next.

With bushfires we get some warning. Same with cyclones and normal flooding.

Flash floods just kill and destroy without notice.

Apparently one family scrambled onto their roof but couldn't rescue their wheelchair bound grandmother in time....

Brisbane is half submerged already and the water level won't peak till about 4.00am.

The rain will continue till at least March according to the experts.

Some towns have been flooded several times since the first week of November.

My best friends Mum and Dad sold their house in Bundaberg just before Christmas and now it is gone with the new owners having only been there a week.

It is pelting down with rain in Victoria as well but I am so high up I am safe from flooding. But looking at the creek down the road I would say some of the houses near it are in trouble.

The price of some food will go through the roof.

Many towns in Queensland rely on tourists over the Christmas/New Year period so they will be financially ruined.

And I still think after all of this we will have a nightmare fire season in March/April.

Only good thing that has happened is the Locust plague has been halted.

They were talking of a rise of 5-6m above the normal river level!

Some idiot priest was saying it was God's retribution for Australia critising Israel - in that case retribution for Israel is long overdue!

There are always religious nuts who think God has nothing better to do than random apocalyptic punishment.

If it was punishment from the Big Guy he would let us know so we understand we were naughty.

Maybe he has been trying to communicate via a burning bush but can't find a dry one.

Victoria is getting its share now.

Carisbrook, where most of my wifes Cook relatives come from, is now underwater again for the second time in four months.

We have had the highest recorded humidity ever for the last two days.
