ARC TBC - Richard Chatwin & Esther-1st generation

Post by MarkCDodd »

I have spent the day tracing the Chatwins that married into my Cutler line....

Talks about confusion with Cutlers/Hadleys/Chatwins all inter marrying and living in the same street!

Its a wonder they all didn't all end up with buck teeth playing banjos!

Before I start adding the second generation I have some puzzles on the first generation.

The parents of Joseph and his siblings are Richard Chatwin and Esther Bashford.

A Harriet Bashford is a witness at their son Joseph's wedding so there is probably a family connection there.

I have estimated Richard's year of birth from the burial records.

Esther appears on many census and 1793/1794 matches those and her death.

What I need is confirmation of their wedding date.

Most people have 28th March 1814 in Birmingham.

Since their first child was born and died in 1813 I find that suspect.

I can find no record of their marriage.

Esther's birth date is generally given as 2nd August 1794 in Egdbaston but once again I can find no record.

Marc, Bham Archives probably hold a lot of documents relating to your Chatwins, they must have been Land Owners etc and with all their trades and marriages there must be lots of documents lying around somewhere for the finding. Linell.

Amended that marriage as a possible only in notes

until we have an actual marriage we can't add it to template boxes
