Elizabeth Barnett/Garratt
Elizabeth Barnett
Married Shelah Garratt 19 MAY 1805
On the 1851 census for Netherton her age is 70, her birth place Losberry, Salop. (Should that be Losbury?)
I can't find a Losberry does anyone have any idea where it is?

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

Well auntie em I never knew that, you live and learn.
I'll try Birmingham library after the hols they have a good selection of Shropshire PRs.
Actually in my youth I did do several site surveys in that area, even had the local nutters, sorry residents ( who didn't want a housing development behind them) throw stones at us!!
Those were the days.

The Marriage will be at Dudley Archives for Halesowen. Halesowen was in Shropshire until 1844, but not for the Census, that was Worcestershire.

Halesowen was in Shropshire for the Census too in 1841. The reason I remember it so well is that when I first started my family research (and there was nothing on the net), I had all the census records on disk and I couldn't find any of my Halesowen Salts in Worcestershire in 1841. Had to buy the Shropshire set, just for that census. It was in the Stourbridge District of Worcestershire in 1851.

Re: Elizabeth Barnett/Garratt
That's not right Halesowen came under the County of Shropshire until 1844, but for Census and Administrative purposes it was under Worcestershire. I know it is listed both as Shropshire and Worcs on the Census, but if you check your facts you will find it was not Salop for the Census. Linell.
Re: Elizabeth Barnett/Garratt
Don't know much about how the boundaries work - should do after all this time
on the 1841 they spell Halesowen with a space - Hales owen
and could be either/or
Hales Owen, Worcestershire
Hales Owen, Shropshire

I live in my own little world. But it's ok....they know me here!

The Hales was from the Anglo Saxon meaning hollow. King Henry 11 granted the Manor of Hales to his brother in law David Ap Owen, a Welsh Prince in 1177, hence the Hales Owen which later became just Halesowen. The Manor of Hales was detached from Worcestershire and annexed to Shropshire where it stayed until 1844, all the Civil Administration including the Census came under Worcestershire. HTH Linell.

Re: Elizabeth Barnett/Garratt
I'm not disagreeing with what has been said, all I was saying is that where my relatives lived in 1841, in Shut Mill Lane, in the Township of Romsley, Sub District of Halesowen is listed under Shropshire, and if you search under county only and put in a search for Worcestershire, you won't find them.
