*Archive* Sylvia WEAVER-John RAY-James Henry EVANS triangle!

Post by serreth »

All day this has perplexed me completely but it has already been sort of discussed here.

So my problem...

I have Sylvia WEAVER on my family tree here married to James Henry EVANS.

James Henry EVANS (Henry) b.ABT 1845 d. ? married Sylvia WEAVER b.ABT 1845 d.ABT 1911 in Jan-Feb-Mar 1869.
From what I can find they had 8 children born between 1870 and 1886.

As I can see from the previous thread Sylvia WEAVER also appeared to marry John RAY in 1877.

This has caused me to wonder whether I have the wrong Sylvia added to my tree therefore the wrong surname.

or

I have found the wrong family on the census and therefore the wrong children.

I also understand that Sylvia and John RAY cannot be found anywhere after their marriage which again leads me to believe that my ancestor James Henry EVANS did not marry Sylvia Weaver but another Sylvia.

Have I confused any of you yet? I know I'm lost but could I do right by deleting Sylvia WEAVER... The frustrating thing is that all the dates add up correctly! :(

If you have got this far, thank you!

(Please feel free to add this to the other thread if needs be!)

have you got the details of this marriage

Nope, not yet...

I'm going to be attempting to get hold of a certificate as soon as Christmas is over and done with. I think it's going to be the only way I am able to verify how correct the info I have is....
I'm actually not 100% on how accurate the fact I have James Henry EVANS is. I have the marriage certificate somewhere of his daughter Henrietta M. EVANS (aka Henry EVANS) and Foley HUGHES somewhere. I'm sure that said Henry EVANS as her father.

Bringing that thread back and merging these posts with it could prove to be the thing to do.

I have Sylvia WEAVER on the 1851 and 1861 census with her parents Samuel and Phebe?

Then I have Sylvia EVANS and Henry EVANS on the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census.

1871 - James Henry is 25 years and has been transcribed as Jasthy EVANS. He can be found along with his wife, Sylvia aged 25, and their son, Walter aged 4 months. They lived in Quarry Bank.

1881 - Henry is 35 years. Sylvia is also 35 years but has been transcribed as Lylvia EVANS. Their children are (s)Walter, 11, (s)Henry, 7, (d)Susannah, 3 (transcribed as 13) and (s)James, 1. They are still living in Quarry Bank.

1891 - Henry is 45 years. Sylvia is also 45 years. Their children are (s)Walter, 20, (d)Susan, 13, (s)Thomas, 11, (s)John, 8, (d)Alice, 6 and (s) Arthur, 5. They are still living in Quarry Bank.

The Henry on the 1881 census is the right age for my gg Grandmother Henrietta M. EVANS and if I was to go on the 1901 census she is also named as Henry there.

I think that gap is quite big between Henry on 1881 aged 7and susannah in 1881 aged 3

first marriage 1869
then Walter and Henry
then 2nd marriage 1877 ....odd one as she is wid but has maiden name..

then 1878 has Susannah

1874-1878.........hmmm

Northern Lass wrote:this site is very good if you dont know of it
it has both sylvias marriages on

http://www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk/cgi/m ... ds#surname

put in the names and the years and see what you get.

can someone post the census pls that would be helpful to look at

wonder if she marries both of them?

there is only one sylvia born in that time frame
the one in 1856 poss dies 1866

if you want to save £9 I will look the 1869 up

I have the death details of Sylvia EVANS here

Name: Sylvia Evans
Estimated birth year: abt 1845
Year of Registration: 1911
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Age at Death: 66
District: Stourbridge
County: Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire
Volume: 6c
Page: 190

I'm not sure how far out Stourbridge is compared to Dudley though.

It's certainly food for thought.

That would be great if you could do the look up for me! :) Thanks

That's what I thought.. Maybe the other children were from 2nd marriage but why are they Evans' and why would James Henry still be head rather than John RAY?

The Richard EVANS and Elizabeth next door are the parents of James Henry I think... Although he has a different name again on the previous census. All very confusing.
