Beta Familysearch

Post by grangers14 »

Do you know much about the Beta familysearch?

I really think this Beta Familysearch is a brilliant resource for searching and helping in our "hunts"

The IGI states if it is an extracted or submitted entry and I didnt think there was a way to tell what the entries were on the beta site.
I thought they were all part of an indexing project and the records were extracted and transcribed.

When using it the other day I noticed multiple entries of the same person, some showing less information so it made me wonder about it.

Looking on their forum I found this thread,
http://forums.familysearch.org/en/showt ... =extracted

That thread was directed here
http://forums.familysearch.org/en/showthread.php?t=4388

I think it would be wise if we use it to double check parish records ourselves as we would IGI, just to confirm.

Jo :)

Their Pilot, which is soon to be discontinued, has a far easier to use search engine.

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

I think the BETA one is the wrong choice.

Try the advanced search on the pilot and teell them they shoul dbe using that one....

I notice on the Beta one they have altered the search facility, which is not so good as it was.

The IGI is going too.
Ancestral files and pedigrees all to go over.
Its all going to be in one place.
Cant see where I was reading about it now.

That'll simplify it, as long as all the info is there and it's easy to see if it's extracted or submitted!!

So are Easy better than ODm?

I know we all need to check it ourselves in the PR's etc etc
but I have found the Extracted ones very good when I have then
checked up on them at archives.

Family History BETA site

Post by Antie Em »

This may already have been covered but I've been speaking to my cousin in Utah who is involved in the work of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, when I asked her what records were being added to the new BETA site - she said

"I called the local Family History Center here in Rexburg and asked them your question. This is their answer.

All of the extra records going on the new Beta site are extracted. The Mormon Church has created a new indexing program where thousands of volunteers, all over the world, are indexing records and they are being added to the Beta site.

A NEW FAMILY SEARCH has been developed and it is not available to everyone yet. It will be released soon to the rest of the world. They are still working out the details and need to finish a few programs before they can handle the volume of interested people around the world.

I will try and let you know when that program will be released.

Your local LDS Family History Centers have access to the NEW Family search"

The new one has been there for a while but only open to LDS members.

When it is released to the public, Roots Magic, my favorite Family Tree program, will let you search it.
