ARC TBC - West Bromwich Workhouse Census

Post by Fatman »

Cant find these at all by name on FMP

Any chance someone could have a look for the 1841 and 1851 for me - apparently on Hallam Street?

I seem to remember some years ago asking to look at the West Bromwich Workhouse census at Smethwick Archives and being told it had been lost or damaged (can't remember what year though).

Maybe Issac wasn't in the Workhouse in 1841, died 1844 aged 2 so he wouldn't have been there in 1841 or 1851 either.

I might have had it wrong - I think it may be the West Brom Workhouse records that are missing. Might be worth contacting Sandwell Archives

if you contact the archives they will let you know if they have the 1844 records
but there may be a charge for a search
if you have the actual day he died then give them that and all info and there may,
if they are in existence , be more info in the actual workhouse register

Just spoken to Mat at Sandwell Archives. All of the West Bromwich Workhouse records were destroyed. They have a few of the minute books but these only start in the 1920's.
