Just spent a couple of days in hospital....
Doing tests for the Narcolepsy.
You have all these wires attached to you and camaras trained on you whilst you sleep and during the day so they can measure your brain waves.
Its pretty cool how it all works and I have to do it every twelve months.
Your level of "sleepiness" is rated between 0 and 24 with anyting over 18 being severe.
I rate a 23 so tend to fall asleep any time Isit still for a few minutes.
Got to watch a lot of the cricket and the first Ashes tests is briliant so far.
England are doing much better than last time they were over here....
I have to watch the cricket whilst peddling an excecise bike...otherwise I would see one over and miss the rest....

Wolvie nods off when I am talking to him...........wonder if he has it!
So can you drive a car?
How does it affect your day to day life?

I thought it was natural for men to nod of while women talk to them.

Re: Just spent a couple of days in hospital....
I haven't driven in almost six months but I am legally allowed to do so as long as I take my medication.
I take 8 tablets of modafinal and ritalin to stay awake for 16 hours.
They give two of these tablets to combat soldiers and pilots to stay awake 48 hours....
The drugs used to cost me about $500 a week but now the government pay me back at tax time after the first $2500.
So I still have tohand over the money but I getm ost of it back...eventually...
Falling asleep is only one of the side effects of narcolepsy.
Anybody can get narcolpesy at any age.
But if you rare Japanese or Korean you have about ten times the chance.

Another side effect of narcolepsy is cataplexy.
When your are dreaming your body turns offf the receptors in your muscles so you don't thrash around and hurt yourself.
Cataplexy occurs when you are awake but suddenly your brain thinks you are dreaming and turns off your muscles.
Today I was looking through an antiques store and had a cataplexy.
I collapsed on top of a display and sent some very expensive items to their doom as they smashed all over the shop floor.
The shop keeper was great once he realised I wasn't drunk.
He said his insurance would cover the items as long as I produced a letter from a Doctor explaining the cataplexy.

In Denmark, if a shop displays items and you damage them, then it's considered the acceptable risk the shop has to take to be able to sell the goods. As long as the customer isn't doing something really stupid (like playing catch with the glass vases!!), if you're just looking around and accidentally knock something (or your child does) than you don't have to pay for any damages.
