Friends Reunited

Post by ThePenkethPedant »

Have recently rejoined `Friends` having been away from it for some years. I find it incredibly frustrating, nothing remotely as good as I remembered it: it`s slow, difficult to negotiate and manoeuvre around, confusing and maddening all at the same time! Wonder if anyone else is more proficient than I am and has a more favourable opinion? The last couple of visits I`ve made have eventually ended with the site saying an error has occurred, they are sorry but their team is working on it. If Genes Reunited is anything like FR, then I shall be most reluctant to reacquaint myself with that site -regardless of their emailed blandishments. Any views?

Hi there PP going to move this to the snug which is a section further down the board that we
can all dive into with "off topic" topics other than genealogy

I recently had a look at FR, it's been bought out by someone else, the couple who made such a success of it to start with sold out. It's not got half the information on there that it did have, apparently people use Facebook now instead, think it has become a bit of a dinosaur. Linell.

I joined FR years ago when I joined Genes. I don't really remember many people from school, but I did try and contact one particular friend - coincidentally, she got in touch with me last week - after about six years. I agree with Lynn - don't think people use it these days - FB is much better. My daughter had her 40th a couple of years ago and we tried FR and FB to get in touch with her friends from school. Didn't have any luck at all on FR - but found loads on Facebook. I find Genes Reunited really useful. I only keep the bare bones on there, just names, and when and where people were born. It's really useful for getting in touch with family members and I do get lots of contacts.

Thanks, everyone; a mixed response really, maybe the reason why FR`s popularity has declined is partly due to its own shortcomings as well as the growth of Facebook. Could be a grain of truth in the suggestion that my pc is a source of the problems - I must try FR on my daughter`s sometime. Other sites are usually OK though.

I'm on FR, but not on FB, decided it was mostly people showing off, and maybe not telling the entire truth. FB is worse!!
GR's ok - I don't subscribe, but have made a few useful contacts through it. Don't like their message boards much - the tone isn't particularly friendly, and you get jumped on if you don't do things their way. (I like it much better here  )
