You never know till you have a go....

Post by MarkCDodd »

My sister in law had come to a dead end in her family tree.

After a couple of years of banging our heads against the wall I suggested a long shot might be worth the effort.

She had a 1st cousin who she remembered as a child but had no idea if he was still alive or what his name might be since he was put into foster care and probably adopted.

She didn't even know what State in Australia he might be in.

So I suggested she put a photograph of them together as children in the classified section of two major papers in each State asking if anybody knew of him.

We were going to do one State each weekend and maybe rotate through them once or twice.

No need....

On Sunday at 10:00AM a bloke rang to say not only did he know about her long lost cousin....he was her long lost cousin!!!

He had changed name but had always known of his original family and was looking the classified section to see if it was worthwhile putting in an advert to try and find his relatives.

He said he hadn't purchased the Sunday paper in years and never ever looked at the classified section so it was pure coincidence that he saw the article.

He immediately filled her in on the missing information and they are getting together for a very lengthy chin-wag.

That is an incredibly nice story.

Obviously adoption etc is incredibly hard on any family, but it's nice to see that at least one family has been able to be reunited as a result of genealogy.

Quite a nice thought when you consider what we're all doing

Its brilliant to hear good stories like that! Thanks Mark

Years ago now, there was a notice in our local paper looking for my Nan. It was her Aunty looking for her. The family believed she had been lost in the blitz as nothing was ever heard from her till then.
She was looking for family because she was elderly and needed looking after!
Never married or had children, sad really.
Jo :)
