Boar War

Post by nessa »

Hi,

Are there any sites which give information on soldiers who served in the Boar War, I am looking for a friend for her great grandfather Private F. Pinney born in Chard Somerset, he served in the Somerset Light Infantry. I can find him in WW1 on Ancestry. He was born about 1880.

Was that a fight against alien pigs or did you mean Boer War :P

I have been doing a lot of tracingof Australian soldiers in that conflict and the records are excellent and online.

British ones will be online soon on FInd My Past.

Meantime, this is an excellent article to start with.

Hi,

'Was that a fight against alien pigs or did you mean Boer War'

That reminds me of a time when I was posting a reply to someone regarding a relatives involvement in the war and I was getting really stuck into my post including lots of information and web links. I posted the information thinking a job well done only to be informed I had used the word Boar instead of Boer ( 20-30 times at least). I think that post is still on the website somewhere 'Oh the shame'

Anyway I'm sure there was a Boar War at sometime because I've heard those Boars can be very nasty

Regards
Adrian

I remember Time Team doing an episode on Pinneys- from Bristol and involved in the slave trade. Any connection I wonder?

Hi,

It was an unintentional slip of the finger on the keyboard after one large g&t at the end of the school year. Yes i did mean Boer war although we used to keep pigs and those boars were quite fiesty.
