UPDATE look up for Mark done! ---Missing marriage....
Racheal Homer (usually Rachel on records but Racheal was her real name) born 1857 in Tipton married Joseph Hadley born West Brom about 1856.
I am assured this is a fact from all her grand children and great grand children who have contacted me on various sites (Ancestry, Genes Reunited etc).
Racheal Homer's parents were Abel Homer and Ann Round.
I do not know Joseph's parents as nobody had been able to find a marriage!!!
So I started looking and the only clue I got was from Ancestry.
England & Wales Marriages, 1538-1940
Name: Joseph Hadley
Gender: Male
Birth Date: abt 1856
Age: 21
Father's Name: John Hadley
Spouse's name: Rachel Pain
Spouse's Age: 20
Spouse's Father's Name: Abel Pain
Marriage Date: 30 Jul 1877
Marriage Place: West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England
I guessed the marriage must be about 1877 as the first child, Joseph Hadley, is born about 1878 in Oldbury.
If you look in the BMD indexes it is listed as Joseph Hawley/Rachel Pain.
I also failed to find a Rachel Pain with father Abel in any census.
So I am thinking this must be the marriage but why the surname Pain?
Able Homer died in 1860. I do no think his wife remarried.
No clue if this was a registry or church marriage.
All Saints was the usual church the West Brom/Oldbury Homers used.
An Elephant Stamp to the person who can solve this one for me and my confused cousins.

Re: Missing marriage....
As you say they are not in the census's, 1861-1871.
There dosn't seem to be a birth reg for Rachel Pain, all spellings.

It might pay to add this to look ups to see what the full details are, it could be one of the witnesses was a Pain, or perhaps Rachel was a bit of a Pain at the marriage, and vicar got is own back.

Re: UPDATE look up for Mark done! ---Missing marriage....
Her father Abel is a Puddler in the 1841 census and Forge Man in the 1851 census.
The age is right for her on the marriage.
The year is right for the marriage.
James Randall is nephew to Joseph Hadley in the 1891 census.
So I assume the witness Ann Randall is Joseph Hadley's sister.
Looks like the right marriage to me but where the surname Pain comes from?????
Let me chase Joseph Hadley's family and see if the Randall theory fits.

It does seem odd, do you know if Rachael's sibs married as Homer or Pain?

Re: UPDATE look up for Mark done! ---Missing marriage....
Homer/Pain marriages there are three but none related. All male Homers and female Pains.
Randle (Randall) connection is on the Homer side, not the Hadley.
William Randle married Patience Homer in Dudley in 1853.
Two of there children in the 1871 census are Mary Ann Randle and James Randle.
James is born abt 1867 in Tipton which matches the James Randall living with Joseph and Racheal in the 1891 census.
Now all I have to do is find what Patience Homer has to do with Racheal Homer as she is not one of the siblings I have listed....

Re: UPDATE look up for Mark done! ---Missing marriage....
Okay, I think Patience Homer is also known as Mary Homer, a sibling of Racheal Homer that I already have in my tree.
Mary Homer disappears after the 1851 census.
She is born about 1836 in Tipton.
A Patience Homer married a William Randle in Dudley in 1853.
Their first male child is called Abel which is the name of Mary/Patience's father.
Patience Randle puts her place of birth as abt 1836, Tipton in most census which matches the Mary I already have.
So I think we just have a name change that occurred just before or during the wedding.
Only a check of the wedding for parents names will confirm this.
There are no matching Patience Homer to be found in any census prior to the wedding.
This would make Mary/Patience's children nieces and nephews of Racheal Homer.
Living next door to William and Patience in 1861 is Racheal and her siblings and widowed mother Ann.
They also name one of their children Ebenezer....which is the name of a sibling of Racheal and Mary/Patience.
