Stupid immigrant wasps!

Post by MarkCDodd »

Just had my wife run into the house covered in Europen Wasps. As I am trying to brush them off her (and avoid getting stung) my two dogs were outside yelping.

So I shoved my missus into the shower (fully clothed) and ran outside with a jug of water to wash the damn things off the dogs.

I was praying I got to them before they swallowed one of the evil things.

Luckily the dogs and wife seem to have gotten away with half a dozen or so stings each and no alergic reactions.

These things are an introduced pest that were a problem for a while but their numbers seemed to have declined over the last few years.

Walked up the road to see where the nest was and it is opposite a shool crossing.

So I rang the council and they have cordoned off the footpath and crossing whilst the pest controller wipes the little blighters off the planet.

Australia has a reputation for nasty creepy crawlies but I have never come across anything as bad tempered as these foreigners!

That sounds awful Mark!

I have to say this year we have seen some huge wasps but I just
assumed they were queens.
When we moved into this house in the loft were 6 nests!
dead ones but how on earth the folk living here never heard anything

Oh how terrible!
So glad there was no allergic reaction.
I'm so scared of them but I am allergic to bites and stings.
My last sting really laid me up and became infected.
The wasp was on the loo roll! I hadnt seen it because it was during the night.
Good job my aim wasnt so good and it managed to sting the top of my leg! :o
I shudder to think how I could have been!
Jo :)
