Bargee terms?

Came across these occupations whilst checking 1851 Census:
at The Wharf, Amblecote....Wharfinger & Batchin....any ideas
as to what they refer to?.....Writing was difficult to read.

(According to Wikipedia) BATCHIN is something
to do with mixing precast concrete...WHARFINGER...Manager of Wharf..

What about 'Legging' where they laid on their backs and went through the tunnels using their legs for man power 8)

After my Grandfather finished on the Boats he was a "Ganger" ?
