Weddings!

Post by grangers14 »

Oh Weddings!
We are just trying to sort out for our Daughters Wedding, discussion after discussion this evening.
They want it 31st October, this year!
Wont wait a year so we can save
So will be on a hunt for save making ideas! Found a good site for dresses, Ebay, but they are from China!

Jo you can buy Wedding Dresses from Ebay that aren't from China, just keep looking. I bought my Granddaughters Confirmation Dress from Ebay, there are usually loads on there. What about a local dressmaker, someone else who is hard up and would like to earn a bit of ready cash :?: Linell.

I made both my girls wedding cakes, and had them professionally iced. I like making cakes anyway, and a local lady charged me about £100 to marzipan and ice them(3 tiers) it would have cost several hundred to have them made from scratch. Also M&S do extremely good wedding cakes for a fraction of the pro cost. Both my girls got married and had their receptions at a local hotel 5 mins from home , so we didn't bother with hired cars either, didn't seem much point in booking a car for a day when they were only making one 5 min journey! We put florists ribbon on our own cars.

My sister bought her wedding cake from M&S and it was really very good, better than some of the really expensive cakes I have had and her florist did her a lovely decoration to go on top. my sisters wedding was planned quickly when our father became terminally ill it was all done in 18 weeks a lot of the wedding suppliers couldn't do things that quickly, she bought her dress from Monsoon and it was beautiful, we made the invites place name things favour boxes e.tc.with stuff bought from a shop in Brum called confetti it was a wonderful day and the whole family was there to enjoy it.
good luck

Oh thanks! Some interesting things there.
I'll have to look more into it.

my sisters wedding was planned quickly when our father became terminally ill it was all done in 18 weeks

They live together as it is and we wanted to know why the rush? The reason was they wanted certain people to be there.
We have lost so many family the last few years, My Dad, Nanna, Aunts, Rick Lost his sister in a car accident and lost his Uncle and cousin when they were travelling to her funeral!
My Mum and Aunt have lung cancer, fingers crossed on its way out. My Aunts husband has just been diagnosed lung cancer the other day and poor Rick is getting over testicular cancer himself!
So yes they have many reasons to do it. Bless them!

My wife made the wedding invites and place names herself,
bridesmaid dresses bought in blue cross sale from Debenhams.
They looked great.

You do realise that is Halloween?

Now that could be fun if you combined the two :)

Wedding are very much like funerals.

Same place, same people attending and life ends for one of the guests (the groom in the case of a wedding).

Yes we had ealised that Mark. Said Id go as the Grim Reaper and disguise my stick as a scythe!
Seems quite fitting as far as the last couple years have been!
Because they have a good few things we thought money for them as a better idea than a pressy. I dont like to even mention a thought of a pressy, for any occasion really for myself, feel cheeky! Our wedding pressy list was daft things like washing line, pegs, bin, ladders etc! Just little bits we didnt have.
But I have seen some things about Wishing Wells. I was thinking we could do a "Cauldron" instead, theme of Halloween?
Anyways the verse goes like this that Ive seen
"More than just kisses so far we've shared,
Our home has been made with Love and Care,
Most things we need we've already got,
And in our home we can't fit a lot!
A wishing well we thought would be great,
(But only if you wish to participate),
A gift of money is placed in the well,
Then make a wish .... but don't tell!
Once we've replaced the old with the new,
We can look back and say it was thanks to you!
And in return for your kindness shared,
We're sure one day soon you will get what you wished for."

Does that sound cheeky to you?
Jo :)

The most important thing for the Bride and Groom to do is label each present so that they know who gave it to them.

This helps with the horrible vases and pictures and other things that you hide away in the garage until those who gave it to you visit.

Then you quickly dust it off and put it on display when they are visiting and try to sound pleased with it if they mention it.

Then soon as they leave, put it back in the garage.
