Shrovetide in the Black Country

Post by gardener »

Just wondering if there were any special things done in the Black Country?
Derbyshire has the daft football thing at Ashbourne http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/derby/hi/pe ... 494339.stm
Here in Iceland we have Monday as cream bun eating day :-) followed by salted lamb and yellow split-pea soup on Tuesday. On Wednesday the kids dress up, sing in shops, and collect sweets - that is a custom imported from Denmark I think.
Obviously pancakes must be consumed on Tuesday, but are/were there any other customs?

What a great topic Gardener

Special customs in the Black Country
can we retitle it with something along those lines!

Drinking would be a good one!

So what customs were there or traditions and when are they carried out?
