I have to confess that I had to google St George's Day to find out when it was but then, the website that told me, also said this :

"St George's Day is not widely celebrated in England and many people do not even know the date on which it is marked."

no di as it no longer political correct to be proud to be english as the labour party and local councils have seen to that even to make pubs take down flags and bunting on the outside of premises when england was playing in the world cup

That's a shame. Pete! Everyone should be able to proud of their own country. Positive national identity makes the world interesting and vital. It's the negative stuff that needs to be resisted.

I'm just starting to not feel ashamed of being Australian again, after the shocking attitude of our previous government to refugees. But I do love the natural beauty of this continent. I used to be proud of the Aussie egalitarion, 'give everybody a fair go', attitude, and was shocked and ashamed to find that we were not as fair-minded and compassionate as I had supposed. Naive of me.

I'm also proud of my English, Scots and Irish blood, and would hate to see those national identities absorbed into one big European melting pot.

NL - Yes!!!!! I was just about to tell you all. We booked our tickets yesterday.

And visiting the Midlands is high on my priority list. I'd love to meet as many of you as possible in person.

Australians will have a go at anybody they genuinly have affection for. They are of the opinion that the people being ribbed will have the maturity to:

a) Understand that it is harmless fun.
b) Give just as much back.
c) Have enough pride in themselves not to take anything said to heart.

There is no dislike for England or The English. Anybody who thinks so has failed to repond with the above ABC in mind....

To my horror, little Price WIlly was treated like a rock star during last weeks tour of Oz.

I will be cheering loudly for Andy Murray in the final tommorow. Not because he is a Pommie or Scotsman but due to the fact he is the underdog.

Aussies love to cheer for the team or individual that has little chance of winning.

That is why nearly all English teams and players get such good support over hear. Nobody expects them to win anything so they are perpetual underdogs in all sports

No I don't Mike, my daughter in law is from the Sunshine Coast, and she is lovely, and so are her family, so are my rellies who emigrated out there, I don't know where you got that impresssion from You probably have a lot of Lins' in your little black book.
