Help - I can't find this family on 1861 census. Here they are in 1851 and 1871. In 1881 they are in Ayrshire.

Here's another challenge. I can't find Ann Rollinson on a census before her marriage in 1842. Her parents are Samuel Rolinson and Eliz Roberts according to her death certifcate, Scotland. There is an Ann Rollinson, parents John Rollinson (Rawlinson) and Elizabeth Smith who I think is her cousin. These are my direct ancestors

DId an 1861 address search on findmypast for James Bridge and found Abraham Yates's family recorded at Gates!!! Also 2 doors down a family of Bates who are also Yates! Abraham's unmarried sister Hannah and a squad of illegitimate children. No wonder I couldn't find them under Yates!

No, fraid not. I just know that Ann Rolinson and Abraham Yates were witnesses at marriage of John Rollinson and Jane Holmes.

Yes they seem to stick together and moved to Scotland together. But what is really weird is that Ann Rolinson Yates was living next door to my husnband's father in 1901 in Cumnock! I have yet to find any marriages between our families but who knows?
