*ARC TBC* - RICH-SHELDON

Post by jac »

I've been searching for quite a number of years now for the baptism of my 3xg.grandfather Richard Rich-

According to his death in 1849 he was born c 1803.

In the 1841 census , his is the only Rich family living at Dudley.
Also living at Dudley is a Samuel Griffin +wife Susanna(Rich)
There is one Rich family living at Tipton -William Rich.
This leads me to believe that Richard -Wlm +Susanna are siblings. (both Wlm + Richard miners)

Baptisms St Martins Birmingham
William Rich 10 Dec 1792
Susannah ...28July 1794 Parents Thomas + Susanna Rich.(Both Wlm's +Sus.birthdates +birthplce(Birmingham) fit with info on later census)
Both married at St Martins Tipton.
Sus's.husband was a witness at Wlm's 2nd marriage.
So it looks as though these 2 are definitely siblings.

1841 census Richard(1800) not born in county) his widow Ann in later cens. born Tipton -
Both children+g.children of Richard +Wlm appear to have same names.

Backto Brum..and this is where I'm probably going off track

Marriage St Martins Birmingham 13 May 1799 Susanna Rich(widow) + James Sheldon(widower)

Baptism Aston Juxta 28 Dec.1803 Richard Sheldon - Parents James + Susanna

Could this be Richard Rich? who for some reason changed his name.

Have another Rich-Sheldon connection in 1881 -will send-notes not at hand.

How odd.

Have you looked at the marriage for Richard Rich and Ann Timmins St Thos 3 Jun 1827. Who witnessed it?

There seem to be other kids baptised to Susannah and James Sheldon in Birmingham - are they ever linked to the people you know are Rich-es?

Do you know what happed to James Sheldon?

Yes, they are my 3xg/grandparents, witnesses were James + Sarah Hickmans. I'm putting this Sheldon /Rich on the back burner-doing my head in!!
