Kelly's Post Office Directory

Post by Vikinghunter »

I'm not sure if this useful directory has been mentioned here before. Somebody at the friendly Kew offices mentioned this to me when I was there last year trying to find the naturalisation papers of my forefathers and I had forgotten all about it.

Anyway, thought you might be interested to know the 1902 Edition is available online. I had been searching for my great-grandgather's half brother's corkmaking business address in South London for quite a while (I refer to the corks placed at the top of wine bottles you're fond of "popping off" to see how much damage you can do to the ceiling......)

Anyway, I digress, after endless poring through this fascinating directory I found the business address! I had'nt realised the (dissolved) company was shared with another gentleman who also lent his name to the company name which was what had foxed me in the past.

2nd anyway: I contacted Companies House with the "new" information and they have traced it in their files! However, "for further information" I have to contact, guess who? yes, Kew again.

I'll pop over there when all this snow has gone and will report back. It's nice when you make positive discoveries concerning your family, is'nt it?
