*Arc tbc* --Hello from New Zealand- Palethorpes enquiry

Post by PamW »

I am a bit of a learner on these forums so hope I get it right.

My sister & I are searching our family history and I am piecing together our Palethorpe ancestry.

We are descendants of Charles Palethorpe, his son Frank Howard Palethorpe snr and his son Frank Howard. Younger Frank Howard (called Howard)came to New Zealand in 1927 (about) - he is my grandfather- legend has it to start the Palethorpe sausage business here. None of the family have ever returned to England. Howards sister Gwladys also lived in New Zealand. Her father was a Davies - Linked tothe Broken Hill Mining in Australia.

I have ben looking at this website and have found it to be very good to trace the family. I am a bit puzzled as Charles does not seem to fit in to any of the family - there is a Charles Henry but that is not him. Charles (born about 1826) has been placed in some trees as a son of Thomas PAlethorpe - but the none of the census records put him in this family. I feel that he may be Henry Palethorpe's (who started the Palethorpe business) cousin rather than a brother .

Any ideas?

Hi Pam

Welcome to the site -I am a novice too on these sites -

I know we were discussing the Palethorpes recently - and so when the experts wake up I am sure they will be diving in!

They may move the question to a different thread so it gets more attention but I know they will let you know where it has gone.

Happy Hunting

Thanks -that is the family. Eleanor G was my Aunty Gwladys who lived in NZ too. Frank W was Frank Howard. I am stuck on tracing back Charles.

hi pam and welcome

if you read the notes at the bottom of census, is says why i included charles as a brother to henry

although charles is not with the rest of the family in 1841 i have linked him in due to edwin being his nephew and son of henry (see 1881 census)

This could be Charles (who married Mary Ann Cooper on 8 Sep 1849 at Leamington Priors Warwickshire at the age of 23) in 1841,
At Wellington St., Leamington Priors in the household of Abraham Collins (a Grocer) and his wife, Susannah, as a servant:
Charles Pailthorp 15 M. S. born in county

Thanks Peter. Thomas and Elizabeth had a son William born about 1826 . Charles does not show up on any census records of the Thomas/Elizabeth family. How would I be best to try to obtain Charles birth records?

I ahev quite alot of the family tree drawn up = partly from your BCC website and other records. Sometimes hard to verify and is good when you get 2 sources which cinfirm.

Regards
Pam
