Hi from Antonia
Hi everyone,
I've just joined, after finding the Black Country Connections website.
I've spent the past 25 years tracing my family tree and now have a huge collection of information which I store in an Excel spreadsheet and send out to relations on request. However, in order to make this more widely available I have been slowly adding it to a personal tree on Ancestry.com. My tree contains some 10,000 individuals at the last count, and about half of those came from the Black Country. Prior to the Industrial Revolution some of my Black Country lines originated from Shropshire.
I'm extremely careful about the information that I use and do my best to check out primary sources where I can. I live about a mile away from the Society of Genealogists in London, which helps! I have a lot of BMD certificates to share. I also read Latin well so can offer help if anyone needs it with old documents etc.
I have probably been in touch with some of the other Black Country researchers in the past, as I've recognised some information about my very close relations that I supplied to a researcher a few years back. It will be great to have this forum as a centralised place to discuss things rather than relying on email which is tricky to keep track on over the years.
The names that I am interested in are as follows:
Addlington (Haddlington); Attwood; Baker; Ball; Barker; Bale/Beale; Beddoe; Boden; Bradley; Cartwright; Clayton; Clews; Corbett; Cooper; Crawford; Davies; Dudley; Edwards; Elwell; Fay; Field; Foxall; Fudge; George; Gethin; Gibson; Giles; Glazebrook; Goslin; Grimes; Grove; Hadley; Haines; Hale; Hartill; Hartshorn; Hathaway; Haycock; Hewish; Hickman; Hodgetts; Hollies; Horobin; Jeffries; Jewkes; Jones; Kirkham; Knight; Lavender; Madeley; Marsh; Martin; Milsom; Moore; Neath; Oakley; Parkes; Perry; Price; Quinton; Reynolds; Rider; Roberts; Robinson; Rollason; Round; Sankey; Shakespeare; Shaw; Souch; Spittle; Taylor; Thompson; Turner; Vickers; Walton; Wassell; Westwood; Wheale/Whale; Whitchurch; Whitehouse; Willets; Williams; Winter; Woodall.
Nice to meet you all, I'm looking forward to working with you!
Antonia

Re: Hi from Antonia
Hi you made it!
Welcome to the forum
I agree it is really good to have a forum to work out of and Black Country Connections and Genealogy Forum uk
work real well together....
So you know about the Black Country Connecitons project and you are in touch with me on that so that is good.
Now we also have a dedicated Black Country Genealogy section too, just scroll down the main board and post any
queries in there.
The General discussion handles the other "counties" and queries.
You may find other connections on here I notice the name Rollason,,,,,,,our Mally aka Mallosa connects there
but we all connect somehow
One big family!

hi antonia welcome to the forum
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

Re: Hi from Antonia
Hi everyone, thanks for your welcomes!
I suspect that Steve P who appears on the BCC is my third cousin who I was in touch with a while back regarding the Rollason family
There were a big group of Rollason researchers around at one point and we all seemed to be related to each other - other third cousins who were very active in their research included Brian RB and Lesley H (in case they are around too!). Briefly, this is how I am related to them:
William Rollason, m. Catherine Dudley >
Joseph Rollason, m Phoebe Davies >
William Rollason, m Jane Parkes >
James Rollason, m Sarah Whale >
Rosannah Rollason, m. Joseph Parkes >
John Parkes, m. Elizabeth Hickman >
John Parkes, m. Annie Lizzie Edwards >
my mother
I'll look for your posts Annabelle; my Turners are the family from Gornal that include Sylvanus, and an as yet separate line from Dudley in the late 1700s.
Cheers

Re: Hi from Antonia
Hi Antonia,
Just wondering if you ever came across Shakespeare brothers who went to Ireland (Cobh, Cork) in the 1820's. They were stonemasons and went to rebuild Irish Churches. One would have been my great great Grandfather.
Regards,#
Helen O'Sullivan(nee Shakespeare)
