I am trying to find details of a marriage between Joseph Hackett Whitehouse and Emily Martha Alderman. Their first child Irene was born in 1908 and their last child Albert born in 1925.
His Parents were John Whitehouse 1849-1905 and Louisa Hackett 1857-1930.
On his Army discharge papers she was listed as his "unofficial wife" does this mean that they were not married or perhaps he was married already.
Emily's parents I am not 100% sure but I have them as Frederick & Charlotte Alderman

Which area is it babybear?
On the birth certificates of the children does it just have the mothers name no wording saying formerly such and such
as that is often a good indicator

I had a good look this morning and couldn't find them on the 1911 census, including the children.
No marriage either.

1919. On his Army Pension record its says
Royal Army Veterinary Corps, 31st MVS. Reg R754.
It list his children, Irene, Evelyn, Harvey and Frederick. It states unoffical wife.
I would have presumed they were not married at that time.
Did they much later or at all??

Thanks to all of you who replied, I am assuming that they never married, However on Emily's death Certificate she is listed as Whitehouse would this be possible if they were not married.
I don't know where he served but I do know he was in the Lancers then the Vetinary corp.

Any chance that Emily was not born an Alderman? If she was already married, that could also explain why they never married.

Not found a marriage but I found them on the 1911 Census living at 296 New Avenue, Acocks Green, Birmingham.
It states Joseph & Emily have been married for 4 years, had 3 children but only Irene still living.
They are with Joseph's parents John & Louisa and have daughter Irene listed age 2 born in Farnham Surrey together with Joseph's brothers Harvey (25) and William (20). All 4 males are listed as gardeners.
