This is really doin' my head in now For the last five years I have been trying to find my Grandfather William and parents on the 1891 and 1901 Census but keep hitting a brick wall This is what I have...
Birth Cert: (sub district of Ladywood, Birmingham) William - 28 January 1888 H-M 11.00am 97 Icknield Square (I think the time indicates there was more than one birth?) Father: William Thomas Wilson - Brass Tube Drawer Mother: Lucy Wilson formally Lane
On Williams marr cert in 1907, it states his father as Thomas Wilson - Tube Drawer

Ahhh...found this but, something very strange here, everything seems to fit except for the surname 'Lee', am I missing something?

can you find lucy lee on the 1911? then you can find out how long she is married to him? and poss find death cert william ? or if they confirm that marriage cert ?
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

This appears to be the rest of the family in 1891 - presumably Louisa was struggling to cope with 3 children under 3 and continue with her Brass Polishing
1891 5/37 "Grosvenor St Wer??? Ladywood
Thomas Lee 24 Tube Drawer Louisa Lee 23 Brass Polisher Agnes Lee 2 Thomas Lee 1 All born Birmingham

Don't think it will make a difference but just looked at this original and Alfred was born in Mountsorrel Leicester
"My story" for this info - but I can't find any facts to back it up at the moment
Lucy Lane married Thomas William Wilson and had a child William Wilson. Very quickly the marriage came to an end - (he died?, he left her?) - she became invloved with Thomas Lee and had two more children (followed very rapidly by more)
Thomas's family took in her eldest child calling him their grandson but not changing his name to theirs - when he went back to live with mother he was given his stepfather's name -later on William reverted to his father's name at some time before he married
Do you know whether William was in the forces before WW1 - I only ask because on the 1911 census the William Wilson that matches most closely to your William is in the army:
Person: WILSON, William single age 24 born Birmingham Institution: 4th Bn Worcestershire Regiment, C AND D COMPANIES 4TH BATTALION WORCESTERSHIRE REGIMENT, BAREILLY, UNITED PROVINCES, INDIA Military details: Lance Corporal 4th Bn The Worcestershire Regiment
This might be a complete sidetrack and I can't see the original at the moment to see the number of children born etc but...
1911 2 Back 213 Great Francs ST LEE, Thomas Henry Head M 44 1867 Carman Kenilworth LEE, Elizabeth Wife Married 22 years F 44 1867 Birmingham LEE, Frederick Son Single M 16 1895 Tube Drawer Birmingham LEE, Clara Daughter Single F 7 1904 Birmingham
I will add it to the 1911 census look up to see if anyone can see the original

Wow! Mathsgirl, you are so logical
I saw that one but didn't want to jump to conclusions, but guess what! I was born at 5/97 Grosvenor St West and my Grandfather William lived at 143 which is where he died in 1952

If it is him his service records might help
Mathsgirl, thankyou so much for spending time looking at this
It can't be him though cos my William married Clara Fradley in 1907 at St Laurence Church, Aston, Birmingham (I have the Cert)
