As far as I know you will have to do the hard slog and apply for his papers.

You might find some online army lists that mention him but no more detail than what you have.

Hi Peter,

The link Mark gave you is the only way to obtain the service papers (due to data protection) but just a word of warning make sure you read all the criteria and send all the required proof and information that is requested on the link given. If you miss sending anything it will get returned to you and you have to start the process all over again which takes about 6 weeks.

You can never be sure how much information is included on the service papers and it could be just the basics to more complex information and for £30 it's a gamble what you get.

The daughter of my Grt Uncle obtained her fathers Navy service records from 1940-1943 but got very little information.

Good luck
Adrian

Hi Peter,

You'll need to fill in the Subject Access Requests (SAR) form to access records for all ranks in the Army that served after 1920. Just click on the link on the website and then click on the Subject Access Requests SAR link in blue to print off a copy to fill in (same process next of kin form).

The death certificate will be fine to send.

The following address should be used for family members wishing to access records of deceased soldiers:

Army Personnel Centre,
Historical Disclosures,
Mail Point 555,
Kentigern House,
65 Brown Street,
Glasgow,
G2 8EX

Good luck
Adrian
