Hello,
First of all, thank you for including me in this forum. While researching my family, I came across a wedding that took place on March 21, 1778, in Banff, Banffshire. The couple married Alexander Frazer and Margarethe MacPerson. My question is, how can I find out the parents of both spouses, as this would be important for my further research.
I ordered the marriage certificate from Scotland People and am curious to see if the parents are listed there, or the birthplaces of the Frazers and MacPhersons. It would, of course, be very nice if one of the forum members here could help me. Perhaps someone else has access to the Banff church records.
Many thanks in advance and kind regards from Germany
A. Girke

Found this on a web site:-
In Scotland during the 1700s, the legal age for marriage was 12 for girls and 14 for boys. However, the average age at first marriage was typically in the mid-twenties, with women marrying slightly younger than men. While legally possible to marry at 12 or 14, it was more common for people to wait until their early twenties to marry.
I am not certain if parents names are entered on marriage certificates in the 1700s in Scotland.
Something to think about with the Baptisms.

Re: Wedding of Alexander Frazer and Margarethe MacPherson
Hello everyone,
My name is Andre and I'm a family researcher from Germany. While researching my uncle's family, I came across the surname Fraser/Frazer. I've found the following people so far, although not all of them have been proven by verifiable documents to be actually related to my uncle's family:
Alexander Frazer married Margaret MacPherson on March 21, 1778, in Banff, Banffshire, Scotland. I've already requested a marriage certificate, but haven't received it yet.
My assumption is that Margaret MacPherson was born on August 23, 1750, in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Her parents would therefore be Alexander MacPherson and Janet Lamond. I've also found two other children, Mary and John. Margaret MacPherson died in 1782, leaving behind a widower, Alexander Frazer. This is what the death certificate states. Unfortunately, that's all I can say, as I don't have the original certificate. Alexander Frazer was a soldier by profession/status. In 1779, one year after the wedding, a Thomas Frazer was born in the Philippines/Netherlands. These details, including the name and place of birth, are verified and proven in a document that can be directly attributed to Thomas Frazer. Thomas Frazer is also a soldier, and two of his children were born in Versailles. The birth certificates/baptism records are available here.
My question is, how do I find out who the parents of Alexander Frazer and Margaret MacPherson are? The marriage certificate might reveal this, but are there other sources available? Who can provide further information about this MacPherson/Frazer couple?
I would be delighted to hear from you. Kind regards, and thanks in advance.
