Joanna Dunn

Post by Marchesgirl »

I think Joanna Dunn https://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/t ... ver=665583 who married Noah Raybould and Benjamin Attwood was the daughter of Joseph Dunn and Johanna Edwards and that Joseph Dunn is possibly the son of James Dunn and Sarah nee Forrest. https://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/t ... ver=665585

Joseph Dunn married Johanna Edwards at St. Mary's Church, Kingswinford on 28 December 1801 (Joseph Dunn, otp., m. Johanna Edwards, otp. By Banns. He signed name, she made mark. Wits: William Stafford & Phebe Forrist). Joseph and Joanna baptised four children at St. Michael's Church, Brierley Hill:

31-10-1802 James son of Joseph & Joanna Dunn
05-08-1804 Anne daughter of Jos. & Joanna Dunn
19-10-1806 Ann daughter of Jos. & Joanna Dunn
10-04-1808 Joanna daughter of Jos. & Joanna Dunn

Both daughters named Ann died in infancy and their mother died in 1808 aged 22; all three were buried at St. Michael's Church, Brierley Hill:

07-05-1805 Anne daughter of Joseph & Joanna Dunn, Infant
07-02-1808 Ann Dunn, 1
10-04-1808 Joanna Dunn, 22

I haven't been able to find Joseph after 1808; he may be the Joseph Dunn, widower, who married Elizabeth Wheeler at St. Mary's Church, Oldswinford on 26 June 1814 (one of the witnesses was Richard Dunn).

Supporting evidence for Joseph, husband of Joanna, being the son of James and Sarah nee Forrest:

Joseph, son of James Dunn and Sarah nee Forrest, was baptised at Brierley Hill on 7 February 1779; he would be 22 when the marriage to Johanna Edwards took place
Joseph Dunn signed his name when he married Johannah Edwards. At least 4 of James and Sarah Dunn's sons were able to write: Richard, Silas, Ishmael and Lot all signed their names when they married.
When Joanna (bp. 1808) married Noah Raybould in 1825, one of the witnesses was Lot Dunn. Lot is a very unusual name within the Dunn families so it is almost certain that this is Lot, son of James and Sarah nee Forrest. This suggests that there may be a familial link between Lot and Joanna.
Phoebe Forrist who witnessed the marriage of Joseph and Johanna nee Edwards may have been related to Sarah Forrest who married James Dunn - there are a number of inter-marriages between Dunns and Forrests.
A James Dunn married Hannah Forrest at St. Mary's Church Kingswinford on 22 August 1824. (James Dunn, otp., m. Hannah Forrest, otp. By Banns. Neither could write. Wits: William Dunn & Thos. Walker.) This could be James bp. 1802, son of Joseph and Joanna. His bride, Hannah Forrest, could be related to Sarah Dunn nee Forrest. William Dunn, the witness, may also be a relative.

I've been told that James Dunn was wealthy enough to pay a rent at Park Lane Presbyterian Chapel to ensure that the family had their own pews. If this was the case, he could probably afford to educate his sons. Whilst most of James' sons started out as nail makers or chain makers, several of them diversified as they got older. Silas was a gardener in his later years, James sold fruit, Lot kept cows and Ishmael became a green grocer.

I connect to James Dunn and Sarah nee Forrest (they are my 4x great grandparents) so, if Joseph is their son, then I connect to him and Joanna. I'm descended from James and Sarah's son Silas.

Only a couple of minor corrections:

Joseph & Joanna's eldest son (bp. 1802) was James not Joseph
Joanna Dunn nee Edwards was 22 when she died in 1808 (burial register of St. Michael's Church, Brierley Hill)
Joseph & Joanna's daughter Ann (1804-1805) died in infancy (burial register of St. Michael's Church, Brierley Hill)
Joseph & Joanna's daughter Anne (1806-1808) was 1 when she died (burial register of St. Michael's Church, Brierley Hill)

Otherwise, looks fine.

I have changed that. Thank you for checking! :)

Freereg has the name, Ann on both and that it what I used.
Ann's age at death, Tribal pages uses their own calculation for age at death, I can't change that.
Ann's Christening,
19th October 1806. St Michael, Brierly Hill.
Ann, parents, Joseph and Joanna Dunn

Her burial,
7th Februray. 1808 St Michael, Brierly Hill
Ann, aged 1
