Hi just joined.

Post by Attenoke24 »

Hi I’ve just joined the site as after my parents, husband and daughter did DNA tests, I found out that the person who I’ve been calling Dad is not related in any way to me.Shocked would be a good way to explain how I feel. The situation is complicated my parents are both 96.
So my problems are:
I don’t know if my Dad is aware.
My mother is not a reliable source of information.
I currently appear to have loads more American cousins than English.
I’m so confused and I need help.

welcome to the forum

if their 96 i would leave it not worth the upset try to get your mother to tell, get her to tell you stories of when she was young and growing up use a digital recorder to record them, names may pop up to help your research and you will always have a digital recording try uploading your DNA to gedmatch.com what site is your DNA on now?

Hi, and welcome!
Pete's advice is good. I wish I had recorded conversations!
I would do this with your "Dad" too. His memories are just as valuable for your history, and as well as childhood memories you could ask him about meeting your Mum and stuff like that.
I know less than nothing about the DNA side, but does it get skewed by the size of families and how active they are at doing tests? I mean, if no UK relatives have been tested, but several in the US have, would that make for lots of US connections?
