Moses Fisher was born in Blackheath and lived with his wife, Hannah, at 95 New John Street, Blackheath. He volunteered for the Worcesters but by 1917 he had been transferred to the 9th Battalion of the Gloucesters. They went to Greece for the Salonika campaign in 1916. The first major attack of 1917 was the battle of Doiran, an attack on the Jumeaux Ravine near Lake Doiran, starting on the 24th April. It was heavily wooded country cut by steep gullies and unsuitable for infantry operations. The Bulgarian defence was determined and the Allies suffered heavily. Private Moses Fisher was killed in action on the 25th April 1917 and is buried in Karasouli Cemetery (A 156). He is commemorated on the Blackheath and Halesowen Memorials.
