Arthur Detheridge was the son of John and Emma Detheridge of 3 Beech Street, Station Lane, Blackheath. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers and became a Driver in the Ammunition Column of the 242nd Brigade which was attached to the 48th North Midland Territorial Division which included the Worcesters first line Territorial battalions. In the follow up to the German withdrawal of March 1917 they captured the 'Mound' at Templeux-Guerard, a cliff thoroughly well defended by the enemy, which presented a feat of considerable bravery. However, it was probably here that Driver Arthur Detheridge was killed by shell-fire. He was 20 years of age and is buried in Villers Station Cemetery (VII H 21). He is commemorated on the Blackheath and Halesowen Memorials.
